GIC attendance breaks record Networking, education, and new product demonstrations were just some of the many opportunities available to a record-breaking number of attendees at the recent PLANET Green Industry Conference in Orlando, Florida. More than 2,000 participants attended this popular annual event. “This GIC is bigger and better than ever,” states PLANET President Dan Foley, CLP, “and I could not be more proud of all of the outstanding accomplishments that we’ve attained over the past year, including GIC.” Plans are already underway for next year’s event, which will be held November 1–4 in Columbus, Ohio. Judges’ Award presented to exterior and interior companies LaurelRock Company in Wilton, Connecticut, and Gardeners’ Guild in San Rafael, California, were named recipients of the 2005 PLANET Judges’ Award at the recent Green Industry Conference awards banquet. Because of the exceptional quality of LaurelRock’s exterior residential design/build project, “Putnam County Retreat,” and Gardeners’ Guild’s “555 California Street” interior maintenance project, judges of this year’s Environmental Improvement Awards Program chose to honor these companies with this prestigious award. Trailblazers roster continues to grow PLANET Trailblazers are an elite group of individuals who have made significant, long-term contributions to the green industry and who will set aside one day to provide on-site mentoring to a PLANET member. More ... AEF receives contributions from PLANET members Two PLANET members were recognized for their recent contributions to the ALCA Educational Foundation (AEF). AEF Ambassador and AEF board member Rick Doesburg, CCLP, recognized James River Grounds Management, Inc., for its $5,000 contribution and AEF Ambassador Hunter Industries for its pledge of an additional $10,000. More ... PLANET continues support of Renaissance Park PLANET continues to support the City of New York’s efforts to build Renaissance Park, a memorial park honoring the heroes of 9–11. The association originally planned to build the park during 2004; however, after still not receiving plan approval in early 2005, PLANET decided to scale back its role in supporting the city’s efforts to build the park. More ... Crystal Ball Committee focuses on LEAN Management The Crystal Ball Committee recently gathered for its annual meeting. This year’s group discussion focused on "LEAN Management" — the total process of eliminating waste through continuous improvement. This management strategy will change how people think and look at the way they do business. Information from the meeting will be compiled into a report, one of a series published annually. When completed, one copy of the report will be mailed free of charge to each PLANET member and also will be available in the PLANET Bookstore at landcarenetwork.org. Newly revised Operating Cost Study premieres The newly revised 2005 Operating Cost Study is now available — just in time as you begin planning for 2006. This comprehensive collection of financial data from green industry firms surveyed nationwide can be purchased in the PLANET Bookstore.
